Sample Answer:

In today’s fast-paced world, the level of independence that individuals have achieved is indeed remarkable. However, I believe that the idea of people being more dependent on one another in the past is not entirely accurate. While it is true that in the past, communities were more tightly-knit and relied on each other for various aspects of life, it does not necessarily mean that people were less independent. In fact, individuals have always strived for independence, and this desire has only grown stronger over time.

In the past, people relied on their communities for support in various aspects of life, such as farming, childcare, and healthcare. This interdependence created a strong sense of community and cooperation. However, it is important to note that individuals still had a significant degree of independence in making their own decisions and pursuing their own goals. For example, farmers may have relied on their neighbors for help during harvest season, but they still had the autonomy to manage their own land and make decisions about their crops.

In contrast, modern society has seen a shift towards greater individual autonomy. With advancements in technology and the rise of urbanization, people have more opportunities to pursue their own interests and goals. This has led to a decrease in the reliance on others for daily needs, as individuals can now access goods and services independently. However, this does not mean that people are completely isolated from one another. In fact, modern society still relies on cooperation and collaboration, albeit in different forms. For example, individuals may now rely on online communities for support and advice, rather than their immediate neighbors.

In conclusion, while it is true that modern society has seen a rise in individual independence, the idea that people in the past were more dependent on one another is not entirely accurate. Throughout history, individuals have always sought a balance between independence and interdependence, and this continues to be true today. The ways in which people rely on one another may have evolved, but the fundamental human need for connection and support remains unchanged.
