Write about the following topic:
Some people trust their first impressions about a person’s character because they believe these judgments are generally correct. Other people do not judge a person’s character quickly because they believe first impressions are often wrong. Compare these two attitudes. Which attitude do you agree with? Support your choice with specific examples.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer:
There are two contrasting attitudes when it comes to forming judgments about a person’s character based on first impressions. Some individuals tend to trust their initial assessments, believing that they are generally accurate. On the other hand, there are those who are more skeptical of first impressions, believing that they can often be misleading.
Those who trust their first impressions often argue that they are able to quickly discern someone’s character based on subtle cues such as body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions. They believe that these initial judgments are reliable and can help them make quick decisions about whether to trust or engage with a person. For example, a hiring manager might quickly form an impression of a job candidate based on their confidence and communication skills during an interview, leading them to make a swift decision about their suitability for the role.
On the contrary, those who are hesitant to judge a person’s character quickly argue that first impressions can be deceiving. They believe that people may not always reveal their true selves upon first meeting, and that it takes time to truly understand someone’s character. For instance, a person who comes across as reserved and aloof at first may actually be warm and friendly once they feel comfortable in a new social setting.
In my opinion, I am inclined to agree with the latter attitude. I believe that first impressions can often be inaccurate and do not provide a complete picture of a person’s character. People are complex and multifaceted, and it takes time and multiple interactions to truly understand who they are. For example, I have encountered individuals who initially came across as unfriendly and standoffish, but after getting to know them better, I discovered that they were kind and considerate.
In conclusion, while some people trust their first impressions about a person’s character, I believe that it is more prudent to withhold judgment until one has had the opportunity to truly get to know someone. People are often more than meets the eye, and it is important to give them the chance to reveal their true selves over time.
