In today’s society, the issue of free speech is a hot topic, especially in educational institutions. The question of whether school newspapers should have absolute free speech with no censorship from faculty advisors is a complex and controversial one.
On one hand, giving school newspapers the freedom to express their opinions without any form of censorship can be seen as a fundamental aspect of freedom of speech. It allows students to voice their thoughts and concerns on various issues without fear of retribution. This can lead to a more open and inclusive school environment, where diverse viewpoints are welcomed and respected. Additionally, it helps students develop critical thinking skills and encourages them to engage in meaningful discussions about important societal issues.
On the other hand, allowing absolute free speech in school newspapers without any form of oversight from faculty advisors can also pose some challenges.
