Sample Answer:

In today’s complex and interconnected world, the role of government extends far beyond just providing defence capability and urban infrastructure. While it is true that these are essential functions of any government, I believe that the government also has a responsibility to ensure the well-being and prosperity of its citizens by providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and social security.

First and foremost, education is the foundation of a prosperous and thriving society. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that all citizens have access to quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background. By providing education, the government can empower individuals to reach their full potential, contribute to the economy, and participate fully in civic life.

Similarly, healthcare is a fundamental human right, and it is the government’s duty to ensure that all citizens have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare services. Without government intervention, healthcare would become a privilege reserved only for the wealthy, leaving the most vulnerable members of society without access to essential medical treatment.

Furthermore, social security programs such as unemployment benefits, pensions, and welfare assistance are crucial for providing a safety net for those who are unable to support themselves. These programs help to reduce poverty, inequality, and social unrest, ultimately contributing to a more stable and cohesive society.

While private groups and individuals in the community can certainly play a role in providing these services, relying solely on them would inevitably lead to unequal access and inadequate provision for those in need. The government, as the representative of the entire population, has a duty to ensure that essential services are available to all, regardless of their ability to pay.

In conclusion, while defence capability and urban infrastructure are important functions of government, I strongly believe that the government also has a responsibility to provide essential services such as education, healthcare, and social security. These services are fundamental for creating a fair and equitable society, and it is essential that the government continues to play a central role in their provision.
