In today’s society, there is a debate about the extent of an individual’s responsibilities as a member of society. Some argue that paying taxes is a substantial enough contribution, while others believe that there are additional responsibilities that come with being a member of a community. This essay will discuss both views and provide a personal opinion.
On one hand, those who believe that paying taxes is a significant contribution argue that it is the primary way in which individuals support their society. Taxes are used to fund essential public services such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social welfare programs. Without tax revenue, these services would not be able to function effectively, and society as a whole would suffer. Therefore, these individuals believe that as long as they are paying their taxes, they are fulfilling their responsibilities to their community.
On the other hand, there are those who argue that being a member of society entails more than just paying taxes. They believe that individuals have a moral obligation to actively contribute to the betterment of their community. This could include volunteering, participating in community events, or advocating for social and environmental issues. They argue that a strong society is built on the active participation of its members, not just financial contributions.
In my opinion, while paying taxes is an essential contribution to society, it is not the only responsibility that individuals have. I believe that being a member of society comes with a moral obligation to actively engage in activities that benefit the community.
