There is a ongoing debate about whether university students should have the freedom to study whatever they like or if they should only be allowed to pursue subjects that are deemed useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Both perspectives have their own merits, and in my opinion, a balanced approach is necessary to cater to the diverse needs and interests of students.
On one hand, those who support the idea of allowing students to study whatever they like argue that it is essential for individuals to have the freedom to pursue their passions and interests. They believe that this approach can lead to a more fulfilled and motivated student body, as they are able to engage with subjects that resonate with them on a personal level. Moreover, this approach can also lead to a more well-rounded and diverse workforce, as individuals with different skills and knowledge can contribute to various fields and industries.
On the other hand, proponents of the view that students should only study subjects that will be useful in the future argue that there is a growing demand for professionals in science and technology-related fields. They believe that by focusing on these subjects, students will be better equipped to meet the needs of the job market and contribute to the advancement of society. Additionally, they argue that prioritizing these subjects can lead to greater innovation and progress in areas that are crucial for the future.
In my opinion, a balanced approach is necessary.
