In today’s society, the role of parents and schools in teaching children how to be good members of society is a topic of debate. Some people argue that parents should take the responsibility of teaching these values to their children, while others believe that schools are the appropriate place for this learning. In this essay, I will discuss both views and provide my own opinion on the matter.
Those who advocate for parents being the primary educators of societal values argue that parents are the first and most influential teachers in a child’s life. They argue that children learn by example, and parents are in the best position to model good behavior and values. Moreover, parents can tailor their teachings to their children’s individual needs and can provide a more personalized approach to instilling moral values and social skills.
On the other hand, proponents of the school-based approach argue that schools are equipped with the resources and expertise to educate children on how to be good members of society. They argue that schools can provide a structured and comprehensive curriculum that covers a wide range of societal values and skills, including empathy, respect, and teamwork. Additionally, schools can offer a diverse and inclusive environment that exposes children to different cultures and perspectives, promoting tolerance and understanding.
